A Season of Community: Spotlighting the Heart of the Okanagan

The holiday season invites reflection on what matters most. In the Okanagan, that often means the people and places that shape daily life, and the generosity that continues to define this community. It shows up year-round through neighbours supporting one another, organizations doing meaningful work, and a shared belief that community is something to be cared for.

For more than 40 years, Jane Hoffman Realty has been part of this community and its rhythm. Over that time, one belief has guided how our brokerage shows up locally: real success is built through steady involvement and a genuine commitment to the people, places, and programs that shape the region.

This season offers an opportunity to recognize a few of the exceptional organizations we have had the opportunity to support throughout the year.

These organizations represent just a small portion of the many groups making a difference across the Okanagan, but each reflects the generosity, care, and shared purpose that make this community what it is.

Central Okanagan Hospice Association

For more than four decades, the Central Okanagan Hospice Association has provided no-cost palliative and grief support to individuals and families across the region. As the need for these services continues to grow, COHA remains a steady presence for people navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.

COHA’s work is grounded in dignity and compassion. Through grief counselling, volunteer companionship, caregiver support, and wellness and education programs for children, youth, and adults, the organization offers care that is thoughtful, respectful, and deeply human.

COHA is near and dear to many in the community, and we have supported the organization for 12 years and counting. Initiatives such as the Adventure Bucket List Raffle and The Power of Giving x2 campaign provide meaningful ways for the community to continue supporting this essential work. Those interested in learning more about COHA’s services and current initiatives can visit their website.

YMCA of Southern Interior BC

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC plays an important role in supporting children, youth, and families throughout the community. We strongly believe in the impact of the YMCA’s work and the access its programs create for people across the region.

Through programs that support physical, mental, and social well-being, the YMCA creates welcoming spaces where individuals and families feel supported and connected. Initiatives such as Beyond the Bell provide free after-school enrichment for vulnerable children, while the Young Parent Program offers support during a critical stage of family life and family sponsorship opportunities.

Each year, Cycle for Strong Kids brings the community together in support of youth and family programming. The most recent event raised more than $278,000 for YMCA programs serving low-income children and at-risk youth, reflecting the generosity of the Okanagan community. Our team has participated in Cycle for Strong Kids for the past two years and continues to support initiatives that help children and families thrive. More information about Cycle for Strong Kids and the YMCA’s community programs can be found on the YMCA of Southern Interior BC website.

Okanagan College Foundation: Centre for Food, Wine and Tourism

Education plays a vital role in the future of the Okanagan. It is a long-term investment in people, opportunity, and regional growth.

Through Elevate: An Okanagan Experience, the Okanagan College Foundation is raising funds for the College’s planned Centre for Food, Wine and Tourism. This purpose-built training hub will prepare future professionals in culinary arts, hospitality, and tourism, industries closely tied to our region’s identity and economy.

We believe in supporting education that strengthens the region and invests in local talent. The Centre is positioned to play an important role in shaping the Okanagan’s future for years to come.

Child and Youth Advocacy Centre of Kelowna

The Child and Youth Advocacy Centre of Kelowna provides coordinated, child-centred support for children and families affected by abuse or neglect. The work they do requires care, collaboration, and a deep commitment to protecting children’s well-being. By bringing law enforcement, child protection, healthcare, mental health professionals, justice, and victim services together under one roof, CYAC helps reduce trauma and ensures families receive support with clarity and compassion.

Fundraising initiatives such as Once in a Blue Moon, returning this May, reflect the strong community support behind CYAC’s work. We continue to support the organization and value the essential role CYAC plays in protecting and advocating for children and families across the Okanagan. Additional information about CYAC’s work and the Once in a Blue Moon event is available through their website.

The Generosity That Defines the Okanagan

The Okanagan has long been shaped by a spirit of generosity. It is reflected in the work of community partners, the dedication of volunteers, and the many individuals who choose to support one another throughout the year.

We are grateful to stand alongside organizations whose work reflects compassion, care, and long-term purpose. As the holidays approach, these organizations serve as a reminder of the shared values that make the Okanagan such a meaningful place to call home. For those interested in learning more, there are many ways to support their work and be part of the community impact they create.
